The Fair Deal Scheme – the Nursing Homes Support Scheme

The Fair Deal Scheme was introduced as a result of the closure of the Nursing Home Subvention Scheme which closed to new applications on October 27th 2009. Many questions of law arise in relation to the working of the scheme. This one hour lecture covers some of the practical problems which arise in the context of the scheme and how those can be dealt with.

Topics covered include:

  • The relevance of the Fair Deal Scheme in short-term Estate Planning;
  • The Fair Deal Scheme and clients who have had accidents or who have awards pending;
  • How to advise a client who requires long-term care in terms of disposal of capital assets;
  • Paperwork needed for applications or appeals.
