This one-hour lecture deals with the background and history of sentencing in Ireland and examines the impacts of statutory provisions. It analyses the various Judgments on sentencing and discusses how the law has evolved in this area. It highlights some of the areas of law where guidance has been given.

The lecture covers a number of topics, including:
